Yo, I'm a high-school teacher from Central Florida and I just learned that my family isn't getting together for Christmas this year. So I decided to go on a 2 week hiking/camping trip. Trying to keep my trip in the south. Any recommendations?

North Georgia is nice this time of year, plenty of hiking and camping. Looks like from your picture you want to do the State Park thing and base camp and day hike. I recommend Unicoi State Park, Amicalola Falls State Park, or Desoto Falls Recreation Area for a trip like this.

Two weeks is a long time. If you have two cars, I’d say leave one car at the destination and do a 80-90 mile section of the AT.

You could do the Florida Trail also since that’s closer, but it might be boring since you live there

Georgia poster here. The dotted line on the map is the AT. Tons of other approach trails and loops to do in this area. Also the Bertram-McKay trail. Or go to Clayton and hike the Chattooga Ridge trail. Shuttles are easy or you can yo-yo. With the leaves off the trees the views really open up.

I do northern Arkansas when I can since it's only about 4 hours from where I live in Louisiana. Petit Jean mountain is a good location.
