>>1403135ignore the tripfag, he's talking out his ass. usually they're rated for wearing long underwear, socks, gloves, and a hat, and on a high r-value pad. there's also usually an "extreme" and a "comfort" rating. comfort is where you'll be comfortable (maybe), extreme you probably won't be happy at. also, women's bags will tend to have more insulation to reach the same temp rating as men's because women tend to sleep cooler (same with sleeping pads). finally, for best effect try to find a bag that minimizes dead air (don't get a tall bag if you're not tall or a wide bag if you're not wide) because you'll waste a lot of heat trying to warm up the extra volume. related to keeping warm at night, eat a high fat dinner and you'll be so much happier.
