Went to the store to buy some shoes. They said that these shoes were for "Lightweight backpacking". And that is i were to go on wear a heavy backpack i should buy some other shoes as well. Anyone have experiece with heavy backpack and and "hiker" shoes?

Yep. I'd say they're right. Unless you train yourself up before going on a trip, light boots or trailshoes can fuck you up *if* you're on a longer hike, carrying a heavy backpack and/or in very uneven terrain.

Not that the boots you pictured won't be fine for 95 % of outdoor activities, inlcuding most hiking. They will. And if you don't already own a pair of hiking boots/shoes I'd actually recommend that you get something like pic related, because heavy boots will be overkill for most things you're likely to be doing.

I have some solid rubber soled wellington style boots and for cushioning I bought a set of insoles that are meant for people 300lbs+ when I'm only 220

Good for you!
Also don't be afraid of going on longer hikes. Unless you're going on something like five days or more with no means of resupplying during the hike in cold or shitty weather you can relatively easily keep your backpack at a decent weight if your smart about it. And then these boots will be fine.

Those are fine since you shouldnt be carrying more weight than what those boots allow you to.

Only high in the mountain do you need proper rigid boots with crampon hooks. Which are also adapted to the extra weight you'll be carrying if serious (rope, ice axe, tent, etc...)

Im a hunter and soft boots are awersome for quiet stalking when I have <20bs of hunting gear/rifle but after loading up with another 50lbs+ of meat you quickly realise the hike out is not so enjoyable so Ive learnt to hunt with heavier boots.

Im pretty light at 165lb and run 30miles p/w in minimalist trainers so conditioning is not an issue.

didn’t want to make a thread and I’m not sure wear to ask so i hope here will do

I have a pair of hiking boots that were decently stiff when i bought them but after a few years they’ve softened up and are now too soft for long hikes

There is still a decent amount of tread on them and they fit so comfortably that I don’t want to get rid of them. I want to know if there is anything i can do, perhaps stiff insoles?

If theyre good/expensive you can get them resoled otherwise if theyre cheap just buy new boots and keep those for light duties.
