All right out, help me be a good son and do something good for the world.

I'm trying to gift my aging father some good camping gear. He's been looking into a lot of titanium cookware for it's lightness. Any recommendations? How does the quality of snowpeak hold up?

Any tips on how to get a good deal?

You can buy most of the same crap on AliExpress or other Chinese marketplaces for a fraction of the price. It's all mass-produced because titanium is apparently cheap as shit these days. Even Walmart's $5 knives are titanium-coated now.

Point for titanium: Light and strong.
Point against titanium: If exposed to extreme heat it can, under certain circumstances, cause the molecules in the metal to change arrangement irreversibly making the titanium brittle. I also think it has an issue with hotspots when heating it up, which makes it of questionable use for any serious cooking.

Here's a real tip. If you decide to go with the Snow Peak, one option is to go on Google Express, search for "titanium mug" and use one of their 20% off codes. Code should be "HOLIDAYSAVE3X" for 20% off your first 3 orders.

Note, I've heard titanium has issues with going brittle when exposed to high heat and with having hot spots when cooking. But do your homework.

You don't actually "cook" with titanium, you will burn your shit. You also don't use "cheap" titanium, as its made from "recycled titanium" from China, which isnt anywhere near as durable or as capable of tolerating high temperatures without literally melting on you.

unless he is maximum boomer then chances are he's already researched the differences between titanium, aluminum, and stainless

I use a diffuser to cook with. I have the Snow Peak set with 2 small fry pans. Great for sausages, eggs, and even making muffin cakes. If you don't the the heat goes straight through the metal and burns whatever you have. Leaving most people to think all you can do is boil water.
