>>1417976You will want two rods, one for panfish and one for larger fish, and maybe a tip-up as a noob. If you want Gucci, the panfish rod should have either a quality inline or a 500 series Shimano, and the walleye/laketrout/pike rod should have s 1000 series reel.
But a $40 panfish combo rod/reel, a $60 walleye combo, and a $15 tip up are only negligibly less great than a Nasci 500FB, a Baitrunner 26" UL, Stradic 1000, Widowmaker 38" Lake Trout, and a $40 tip up.
Flashers are great, the difference between a $250 flasher and a $700 flasher doesn't make that much difference if you aren't on big water. A pinch on depth finder and a lake map can get you on fish without one with just a bit of experience. Cameras are fun but not vital.
A good auger is nice. You can cut a 4 foot hole by hand if you're a masochist, but if you're on ice more than 6 inches thick, an auger is super worth it.
A pop-up is great if you are out in the Minnesota style cold, otherwise a sled box wind break is fine for anything warmer than 10°F. If it's nicer than 20 with low winds just bring a chair.
