>>1414101I've never used a "ridgerest solite" but I've found that a rolled up mat makes for retardation when I get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom or simply raise up a bit to roll over. They tend to start to curl regardless of what side you laid them on. I'm sure some are worse than others at that, but it'd be expensive to test so many out to find one that didn't do it. I don't know the brand I used before, it was something cheap though.
>>1414103You need a pad even if you are in a hammock. Winter sleeping is no joke. Prior to foam pads people used wool blankets. Which I highly recommend, if you don't mind the extra weight.
>>1414109I've never liked blow up stuff. It always gets a leak. If you have a pump, it always breaks eventually. Blowing them up yourself just sucks. Something stuffed with leaves is nice only when the leaves are dry and when there are actually leaves to be found. Often times there's snow over them and they are soaking wet. Which doesn't make for good padding. The self-inflating ones are hit or miss and usually stop functioning well after a while. Though, it is about the same rate as when a foam pad starts to be too compressed with use. However, you don't need to worry about holes in the foam.
>weightInflatables almost always weigh about the same more than foam pads. It really depends on design, but they can be 14oz to 3lbs.
