Lifting weights helps build muscle. This will ad to your body weight. There is nothing that will spot remove fat. If you are eating calories that is your current maintenance per your TDEE (total daily expected expenditure), then doing any physical activity will push you into a deficit. If you never work out, and eat a caloric deficit then you will also lose weight. The weight lose will be a majority stored fat. Lifting reduces muscle lose while eating a caloric deficit.
Lifting heavy does not make you lose weight, eating less does.
