Anyhow, look at what it is.
Thin cotton. It breathes pretty amazingly. And depending on color won't retain heat from the sun. Notice how people in the desert wear white?
Connect the dots, OP. You might just be heat sensitive if you're having strokes after 10 minutes of exposure.

In Germany we had today 33° Celsius. My Shirt was soaked. Even in the woods. In Summertime i wear a simple neckerchief, I use my Shemag only in Autumn/Winter.

Because you know, in African and Asian deserts, humidity tends to be pretty low, which makes a huge difference. If you put it in a place with high humidity, of course, you're not going to stand it for long.

Deserts are very dry. In a humid environment they don't work very well for obvious reasons.

A forest can very well be worse because high humidity might prevent evaporation.
