I've been ice fishing where pouring vegetable oil in the holes still isn't enough to keep them open, and having to retie when a big laker breaks you off is impossible in gloves that keep your fingers warm when it's -30. But if you keep the mitts dry and warm by stuffing them in your jacket when you've gotta strip them off to do something with your hand, your hands will warm right back up when you put them on. If you're going to get your hands wet, pull everything off except the disposables.
If it's going to be serious deadly cold (-40 or lower), put some bag balm or vaseline on your hands before the nitrile gloves.
