I grabbed a 20 dollar one off Amazon and its pretty sufficient. I only use it to relax in the day but it would hold up all right on a overnight too as long as it was pretty warm

Cheap hammocks are fine mang, I spent too many shekels and shouldn't have desu

Something to add(worth your money):

Bug netting- for mosquitoes or ants crawling down the suspension line

Tarp- keep you and your pack and shoes dry

Underquilt- Hammock lose a ton of heat thru the bottom. Underquilt + sleepbad on top = good sleep

Thanks guys, I ended up buying because why the hell not. I have a 10*12 foot cheap tarp I can steal for it for the moment, any good tips/diagrams for stringing it up? In summer, can I get away with putting a wooly blanket underneath until I get an underquilt?

Samefag. Add one of those alu foil thermo blankets on the inside of the hammock and you will be just fine. Just remember to beware of moisture.

Am I dumb for wanting to make tree straps out of these? They were dirt cheap, and have a higher working load than the dedicated straps I saw in my local outdoors shop. My plan is to take a single 4m strop, cut in half, and sew loops on each end with leather wrapped around where the biner would go.
