>>1419064Having used both for conservation work in the pine forests of southern Mississippi and the invasive privet forests of northern Louisiana, I can say from experience that it entirely depends on application.
So for trailblazing through the forest - I recommend both actually. First off get rid of that 2 piece hatchet and get you a solid piece of steel like an Estwing - that iron axe head is gonna fall off and it's just an extra pain in the ass. What's more, is with the folding saw in one hand you can hold thorny vines while you chop them with a well-sharpened hatchet.
For felling trees - you're better off with a chainsaw or full-sized axe, but you can make it work with a hatchet IF AND ONLY IF YOU KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOU'RE DOING GREENHORN SAFETY FIRST
For scarring trees, skinning bark for herbicide application - hatchet all the way.
For removing small limbs - folding saw is pretty sweet for this, but a well placed hatchet blow can do the same trick
For sawing sideways limbs or de-compressioning a springpole - maybe the folding saw - i mean you could make it work, but just get a chainsaw and save yourself the effort and time.
