Ok I finally have cell service
I'm in the mountains and cut my finger with axe
About an hour now and I'm still bleeding
I have a first aid kit and bandaged three times but it's still bleeding it also hurts
Trying to get home maybe another hour in an half to get home

Yes I'm embarrassed posting this here

probably a liar, but just in case, quit taking off the old bandages. if one gets soaked through wrap another one around it. otherwise you're just ripping off the formative clots and completely reopening the cut.

I wont forget this experience
Was trying to chop some wood and I was holding it wrong. Hit my finger and no pain
Took thr gloves off and than blood started rolling out fast and wouldn't stop
I need to but another first aid kit now
I not only wasted a lot of the bandages I had but I also got blood everywhere and in the truck

I cut my finger deep before. It should have been stitched up but I am scared of doctors. Bled for over 24 hrs but I kept putting on fresh bandages.. I wouldn't be worried. Make sure to use sterile bandages. Take fish antibiotics if you are that worried.

Fingers bleed like mad. I was moving out of my apartment and I somehow cut my cuticle on a drawer. I didn't even feel it, I just noticed drops of blood on the floor. that shit bled for like 36 hours. I kept wrapping it in paper towels and applying pressure but it would bleed through so fast. I fell asleep and woke up with the paper towels blood soaked. Never hurt the entire time just bled like crazy. No scar and I can't even tell which finger it was now over a year later.

Well yeah, you most likely got the artery in your finger. You wash it out with clean water, then disinfect, then tie over the cut with a piece of clean whatever you've got.

Of course it'll still be bleeding if you aren't putting pressure on it.

Half of my fingers a numb from knife wounds. It's no big deal. You won't bleed out and you don't need anything more than clean water and iodine.

They don't even need stitches unless you completely sever the digit.

All you need is a bit of sterile paper towel or clothe over the cut and then tape over it in a way that holds the skin flaps together.

It'll join back up fairly quickly.

If you can't bandage the wound so that there isn't a gaping hole or misaligned skin then you gotta get it stitched back together. If you don't get stitches the best case is horrible scarring and worst case is impaired function

Another use for stitches is to control bleeding. If you're applying pressure for 10-15 minutes and still bleeding through bandages then odds are you need stitches

like i said, complacency. i'd done it a dozen times in proper footwear with no problem, and one time i didn't think about it, and that was the one time i fucked up. fortunately bismuth has a relatively low melting point and i didn't suffer any long term damage. but yeah, someone who's taken as many lab classes as i have should have known better. my wife enjoyed giving me shit about that once she knew i was okay.
