Looking for opinions or information about garmin GPS devices. Pic related is what Im looking at, maybe not the 30 specifically but more just the eTrex series. Post GPS devices.

I bought the eTrex 20 for around $200. It's ok. It works great whenever it can find a satellite. If I could go back, I would buy it again (but from Amazon) because it does the job for the most part. I think it gets thrown off by the trees here in the PNW.

Thats interesting. Im in the PNW. I just bought the foretrex on a whim because it was recommended to me and i like how light and compact it is.

eTrex is a good entry-level receiver. 60/76 are also good choices, Cx or CSx flavor. I don't care for the sensor (compass/baro) package.
The 7_'s keep the big heavy-duty 4-pin round connector, which allows you to put automotive voltage right on the connector with no adapters/converters/etc.

Most of the GPS devices I carry with me in >pic related.

I'm happy with my etrex 30, I use sasplanet for satellite imagery, though I had to do some fuckery to make it work, and then use scans of paper maps and screen grabs of local government online maps for topo and land claims.

Works great, I'm actually glad I didn't get a touch screen.

Is there a good lightweight, relatively low-priced GPS unit thats solo purpose will be for emergency rescue / communication situations.

Anything other than a SPOT.

Garmin in reach mini? That's what I've been looking at its something like $12 a month for 10 messages (it can send messages to family or friends). Has an so button that let's you know if your distress has been received and puts on on with an operator. Plus you can get like 100k worth of emergency rescue insurance for $18is bucks a year.

I do not own one though so if someone does id like to know more before dropping g $300
