45 years ago a farmer owned about a thousand acres, and sold all the plots of forest around their fields, but kept the actual producing fields for themselves. my parents, all our neighbors, and many others bought up those plots. the deeds allowed for shared access and rights of way through the woods, where the farmers could pass through all the private trails to access their fields and the long established snowmobile trail could continue though all the plots, and we were allowed access to the fields via their rights of way, etc.
the farmers fell behind on their taxes and by around 2014 a literal billionaire son of a billionaire, from out of state, usurped their 200 acres by paying their taxes (200 acres for $200k). they then closed all the rights of way and trails and turned things upside down. all they did was build a gaudy mcmansion and they didn't even buy the land outright, they muscled them out on a taxation loophole and laid waste to the rights that all our property deeds stipulated.
