My opinions on army nestling cutlery:
German nestling cutlery, latest issue. Spoon, big, people with small mouths beware. Fork, very long tines, feels like you're eating at a fancy restaurant or with grandma's cutlery she only brings out for special events. Knife, acceptable, nothing really wrong with it but it has a thin handle to slot in with the rest of the set and I feel like this is the reason you see complaints about it not being good for cutting, fine for spreading stuff on bread or whatever. Can/bottle openers, perfectly fine, separate from the rest of the eating tools, built heavy and durable. Interlocking mechanism, the best by far out of all the nestling cutlery I have come across so far, even with heavy use they stay together and never slide apart in your pack, totally over engineered compared to other ones but well worth it (other armies could learn a thing or two).
Yugoslavian nestling cutlery, come with mess kits in canvass bag. Spoon, more narrow, far more suitable for every mouth (even of women and children). Fork, very useful, in between a fork and a spork, I find it far more useful than the German ones at the camping kitchen. Knife+can opener, very dangerous mix, can result in cuts on fingers if you cook meat rough because slipping finger into can opener but also thick and can grip unlike slender German handle, knife shape is best though one side is for cutting and the other side can be used for butter, I wish the can opener was on the different object to the knife. Interlocking mechanism, very poor, will slide out in pack if not kept in mess kit canvas pouch.
