Hey everyone,

Was just taking some pictures of wildlife near Lake Chelan, in Washington state. I got this picture of a duck, but I'm not sure what to ID it as -- does anyone have any ideas?

They really are, unless they're flying towards you.

It turns out that the ducks I saw just now are of a different species -- I'm guessing mergansers? They were awfully shy, and they flew away a>>1428934

Pic related is a hooded merganser. Similar coloring to buffs but a very narrow serrated bill

Shape and body color is correct to be a common merganser but they have orange-red bills. Not sure if that's black or just bad lighting

I don't think it's bad lighting, I was able to see the green on the head of a mallard with my shots.

I'm stumped lol

with the lighting, I think her brown head appears black. Goldeneyes have different shape.
