Best /out/ pants? What do you guys like to wear when going on your adventures/backcountry camping? A buddy of mine is really trying to sell me on the Fjallraven pants but there pretty damn pricey

Ive got four pairs of different ages, great trousers. Its a felted wool blend (80% wool i think) very water resistent and really dries pretty fast as ive noticed.
However these are not ww2 era, theyre from the 60s to late 80s

I have pants from an army manufacturer. I get them dirt cheap. They are cotton, a bit on the heavier side but fucking durable as all hell. If you want you could wax them or put some spray on them for full weather protection. Cost me like 20 bucks.

Pros: Can be bought for cheap af, durable, good wind and water resistance for 35/65 polycotton, keeps you decently warm even when unwaxed/treated and wet, can take a spark, less voluminous and lighter than BDU pants, but with enough space for a layer underneath, elastic does a good job keeping out ticks and holding the legs up when crossing water, make your ass look great if you've got one.

Cons: Takes longer to dry than synthetics, no back pockets, cut for boots so the length might be insufficient, and the bloody belt loops are far too narrow.

F2 trousers might not be the best /out/ pants, but they're pretty damn good.

Gorka trousers. They come in a million different sizes (it's in the retarded GOST system though) and usually with the suspenders. In my experience they are just as waterproof as Fjallravens and are as easily waterproofed, much more durable, more flame resistant, and some have snow locks to stop snow from getting into your boots.

Idk if you've used a lot of Fjallraven shit, but I am a Canyoneer and Canyoneering is, alongside with caving, the most brutal activity on your gear. Fjallraven G-1000 upper shells are some of the only practical tops that don't get chewed to shreds after three narrow slots. G-1000 is an amazing and versatile textile and shouldn't be slept on. A lot of people think Fjallraven is stupid designer shit for people that don't go /out/ but it's definitely worth the price if you do go /out/.

What works for me here in the Ouachitas is some hiking pants that were on clearance at Academy. They have lots of pockets amd can zip down into shorts for swimming. Lots of room for long underwear when it's cold. Very durable.

During military I thought that the best gear is military gear. Then I bought into the Fjällräven meme since it's pretty standard here in the Nordics. Now I use these. Minimal gear best gear. Unless it's below -20c and you're on tundra. Don't go to tundra when it's cold. They are not fun like that.

If you enjoy backpacking the Ouachita Trail is great, but it is not a social trail. You'll usually go all day seeing one or two groups. personal preference and what type of /out/ you're doing. if you're not doing much walking uphill and no chance of getting wet and cold they'll be fine, otherwise probably not. don't need the $80 name brand shit mentioned itt either, you could get some nylon or wool blend dress pants at a thrift store for $5 and not have to care about durability.
