Besides, the majority of people in any religion (which is not geared specifically towards magic) aren't highly practicing, but their will still exists and is aligned with that religion.
Even if you're not a catholic, you have to admire the ability of the church to cause that many people to exert their will towards a goal. Observe a catholic church during prayer sometime, it's no wonder the religion commands so much power, it involves some powerful will focusing.
