>>1431278Get the strongest wood you can find in your area. The higher the, "Modulus of Rupture," rating the harder it is to break. Shagbark Hickory has the highest in the USA, but most fruit woods are really strong too. Oak, American Hornbeam, etc. Just think of it as a tool handle and what woods are good for tool handles. Look up your local species in the Wood Database online and cross reference the Modulus of Rupture and Janka hardness numbers. The higher the better.
The best thing is to have it knot free. A knot will be a weak point for bending and flexing.
