Montanan here. Haven't done it personally hut you hear about people getting fucked up on it a few times every season. Most of it is people overestimating their skill and equipment. Montana weather can shift impressively fast, sometimes you don't even have time to make camp and hunker down before you notice a big storm brewing.

Dude there are some really cool hikes without altitude gains. Beach cliffs, rainforest, historical areas... any kind of unusual biome. Hell I bet hiking through the Kansas prairie (the .1%that isnt farmland) would make a fun overnighter.

I like the mountains around the Appalachian Plateau in central/western Pennsylvania. Much more than any of the other mountain ranges that I've been to in the east coast area.
