>Is it unsafe to go any higher than that?Lots of factors go into that. You're more likely to catch your wall/floor/stovepipe cutout on fire long before you burn through or rupture your stove. I built a stacked stone surround for mine as both extra thermal mass and to provide more of a standoff from the wall. Also helps efficiency slightly. I really hope you have a double-walled stovepipe and insulated your cutout if you're gonna run that hot.
