this. micro spikes are more than enough for almost all hiking purposes. Bigger spikes like in OP are for much more serious snow. If you need them you know and if you don't know you probably shouldn't be out in those conditions.

I'm the no1 trail runner apologist on this board and I own a pair of La Sportiva boots for off-trail and innamountains. All the other points are spot-on though.

They are good for hiking, but only if you're hiking on ice. Without them, you're most likely dead. That being said, your model is more of a climbing model. They are good for hiking too of course, but a pair half the price with regular spikes would do just fine as well.

Crampons aren’t exclusively for ice climbing though. Really you should have them for any hiking on exposed slopes or ridges in winter conditions. There isn’t really much of a difference between hiking and climbing crampons nowadays.

This. I use crampons all around the Whites during the winter and they're fantastically useful. That being said, OP got crampons that are explicitly for technical climbing. A traditional 12 point mountaineering crampon is much more balanced around walking.

I got a set of those last year and they're pretty disappointing. They're more durable than Yaktrax but not more grippy and basically good for icy pavement . I was slipping all over the place today with 4" of powdery snow on top of ice and I think I'm going to buy a new pair of Stabilicers..

I was /out/ yesterday on an icy mountain and near the summit I stopped and chatted with a woman who was wearing those... one fell off her boot on the trail so she was trying to bareboot it up a pretty icy snow covered slope. On my way down I saw her microspike laying in the snow about two miles down the trail. I bet she had a pretty scary walk down.

I am not sure if any of you guys had encountered this issue but one of the trails I frequent are commonly used by hikers with crampons/microspikes/whatever like OP's pic related. Well, over time, these spikes actually fuck up the surface of the rocks and remove their natural grip. It literally smoothes it out over time. So my piece of advice is fuck all of you that wear these things i hope ur day of reckoning comes soon and i WONT be praying for you tonight.

Can you use easily any crampons on good hiking shoe? I'm planning a tour in march (easy to middle routes, not ice climbing or other shit) but I don't want get financial fucked and buy like pic related for 300€.

Look into what sort of boots you have, ie. b1, b2 or b3 rating and then get the corresponding crampon type ie. c1, c2 and c3.
As far as I'm aware b3 boots take all three types of crampon, b2's take c1 and c2 crampons and then b1 boots will only take c1 crampons. It has to do with the stiffness of the boot sole and also whether your boots have notches on the heel and/or toe for the crampon to clip into.

That’s not true at all. Strap crampons will fit on anything - shit, you could strap them to trail runners if you really wanted to. Your foot would be sore as hell though I’m sure by the end of the day. I’ve worn black diamond contact strap crampons with both summer and winter hiking boots and there’s very little difference until you really start kicking
