As UK citizens are allowed to stay in Canada for up to 6 months, why hasn't there been a rush of 20-40 year old healthy relatively unqualified males (sizable amount of the country) looking to escape rent slavery and/or 12 hour shifts? Surely if they saved enough to pay for a few flights, mapped out and reconnoitered a livable area near fresh water. Planted crops that would thrive despite weather/local ecosystem, visited a few years in advance in preparation, built a cabin using tools they carried with them insulated enough to survive winters, bought an air rifle for small game, all the other essentials they could carry for their health, antibiotics, tic repellent, etc etc. Would only cost a few thousand for the flights and whatever costs incurred by finding a location, equipment, food to supplement the crops already grown/foraged/catches.

Under a few hundred miles to the nearest town they'd go the rest of the way by bike, sleeping away from the road each night, leaving the bike under a tarpaulin&foliage when they arrive. Walk the last few dozens of miles to something which passes as wilderness (not owned by an individual or hardly any foot traffic and plenty of wildlife) then arrive at their spot.
Learn about the effects of certain illnesses/health problems then as soon as they notice symptoms try to make it to the road. Also make sure they don't choose an area known for bears, if they see a bear then bp+pipe+match. If they die then it would be better than dying in a road traffic collision or to alcoholism.

Is this not doable? Couldn't someone of average intelligence and also knowledge/training learned in a few years realistically manage to survive there for a decade? Why aren't more people doing this? There was one from Scandinavia who flew to Canada who had a lifetime of experience but he was very far up north.
