I have a cup and a straw set I got gifted a year ago, still haven't found the time to go get the tea and also get the wood cup prepped for drinking.

if it is a wood mate (name of the cup) you gotta put some yerba till is half full and put boiling water in it till the top, let it set some time 10 or 20 mins, the yerba will absorb the water, if so put some more water and let it rest for one day, if you do this the wood will absorb the flavour of the yerba and it will not taste like wood when you make one that is gonna happend if you listen to ther other anon, after the day clean it with warm (not boiling water) and dry it there you gotta a "mate curado" it is mean to drink unsweetened mate, sorry if bad english thirdworld fag here

The awesome TV series Mozart in The Jungle had the this as the go to drink for the conductor the whole first season. Like half the first episode was on yerba mate.
