Does anyone here actually bring a Firebox /out/ with them? Or is this thing basically just a meme?

I like the functionally and the idea of it. But for what it is it seems very heavy

I have a Honey Stove Ti, that I plan on using. It weighs about 160g and is plenty big enough.
They also have a stainless steel version thats about 360g and very reasonably priced.

I have a Bushcraft Essentials Bushbox, pic related.

I think it weighs just under a pound, with a little grill top and accessories for it. Steel version because I wasn't willing to pay an extra 100 bucks to shave 100 grams.

I brought it on my last 7 day hiking trip. Used it with sticks half the time, with a trangia burner and some backup fuel for lazy cooking or really wet days.

I thought it worked great. Worked with the trangia perfect, and with correct wood processing and feeding, it could burn on it's own for a solid 10 minutes. It's hinged and one-piece too so set up is convenient.

If you're looking for the hottest, lightest or fastest option for cooking/boiling, maybe not. But it's versatile and I like it.

I really don't understand why it isn't standard for pockets to have flaps or zippers. I've sat down and shit pours out of the pockets sometimes. So, I either buy ones with a way to fasten them closed or sew on something myself.

Yea it should be at least with those thigh pockets. When I buy one of those first thing I do is saw the back 1/3 of the pocket to make sure nothing falls out when I sit.

kinda. I've got a homemade threesided one. I mostly use it to protect my ethanol burner from wind and rest my pot on it, but in theory, it can be used with wood as well.

20€ for some sheet metal and whatever cutting and grinding tools you're comfortable with will get you comparable results.

I was gonna slap together my own flat packable twig stove, at work I have access to plasma cutting tables so it's really simple to slap a thin sheet of metal down and get the cuts perfect

You have a point. 100$ here in Poland will buy me a very, very decent top tier backpack, and there are numerous small companies in Poland who will laser-cut anything for you for fragment of that price, you can design your own, some have templates where you can add your logo and shit.

Normally, you are supposed to carry backups on your person and the other set in your gear pack(s). That way if you get seperated from your pack, like is a canoe rolls or whatever, you'll have everything you need to communicate, bushcraft, and firestart.
