The thing that always keeps me away is the thought of 8 years minimum of "on call" and the realities of modern combat when faced with anything greater than unsupported amateurs with ak-47s and grenades. Drones, smart missiles, the fact most automatic modern guns are 300 bullets per minutes minimum will make WW1 look like kindergarden. I'm not doing that to be in the chair force or on the ground with crayon enthusiasts.

you can enlist and get training. The best are mechanics, electronics or information systems. They had a lot of opportunities in the civilian world. Only go battle MOS if you want adventure or curiosity.
