we discovered a bit of a pit (like someone got overzealous making a fire-pit, not the bottomless variety) and there was a human femur in it.
as we were about 13 or so, we notified the police. they put us in a boat and brought us back out there to show them what we found.
when we showed them, they immediately cordoned off the area, and two or three of them started digging. when i asked the guy in charge what he though happened, he told me "oh, it's just a pelican bone". and had one us taken away from the island fast while they stayed behind to dig.
for the record, that bone was only very slightly longer than my own thigh. so either the cop was right, and we have pterodactyl sized fucking pelicans in florida... or he was trying to "protect" me.
