>>1457037Sounds like you are law enforcement. Wild land fire is legit. I did it but I don’t consider it a park ranger job.
I was both state and NPS over a period of 5 years. Interpretation. It was the most boring and easiest set of jobs I have ever had. The few moments I got to go out for work (fire, hikes, chainsaw courses, etc) didn’t make up for the shit pay, shit supervisor I had at my perm NPS job, and no weekends off.
I stand by assessment that for the most part it is a job for people who want to feel important doing nothing.
God bless maintenance though, the true heroes of the NPS.
Seriously though, I think the NPS would do find if it was just maintenance, LE, and Interp instead of LE at historical sites unless geography prevents it. Recreation and resource management should be handled by units of parks with the exception of the massive parks.
Personally, I think a lot of park sites are over staffed and when I’m a visitor to a park the seasonal are mostly mouthbreathing retards unless they have been there for 10 years.
Sadly, America’s best idea is also its worst nightmare when it comes to management.
