Hunting camo is like milsurp, innawoods anthything goes. In public once piece at a time. Choose a pattern that works for your environment, I live in eastern Canada and like mossy oak breakup because it has lots of dark greens but I wish I had easy access to some cadpat

Multicam was rated highest in testing for all ranges of environment and did extremely well in woodland.

Depends on your terrain. If you're in Alpine type stuff like Washington or Oregon, then flecktarn. If you're in deciduous type forest, then multi-cam/OCP. Desert? FDE and coyote work well. Grasslands? I'd go with OD style woodland. Winter snow? Flat white with white cloth. Winter with patchy snow? White/black digital or tiger stripe. Make sure your rifle is the same camo or it defeats the purpose. also, are you trying to fool game or people?

Photorealistic camo patterns make your silhouette look dark to game animals from the distances you’re hunting. Only situation it might matter is archery still hunting or turkey hunting. In every case staying still is more important than what you’re wearing.

I prefer Realtree™ it seems to work well hunting in Eastern North Carolina. Can't speak for it's use anywhere else nor do I wear it in public.
