Oh, and the wooly bugger is the perfect first fly to tie. Get some marabou in a few colors, some cheap saddle hackles, bead heads and lead, and something for the underbody. I like to use peacock herl, but you can use chenille or even crystal flash.
Also, you could try tying foam beetles. They work great, where I live, on bass and bluegill and are extremely easy to tie.
Oh, and try and stick to your budget. It's easy to spend over $70 in a shop, especially when you're making your first investment in materials.
