>>146015I was camping in two days in 2 m deep snow (6 feet) and in -20C during an avanalce training and winter survival course with NPA (Norwegian Peoples Help).
Clothing: WOOL! Wear wool closest to your body, it drains the sweat away from your body and helps keeping you warm. Use woolsocks, and bring many pairs. Use a fleece jacket over your wool shirt and then on top; a shoftshell jacket. As it comes to pants, wear semi - waterresistance/softshell pants. Bring one spare.
Shelter: Use a tipi, snowcave or a mountain tent. Do not use a camping tent, they always colaps if its start to snow. Bring a storm kitchen or a small stove to heat the tent or tipi. DO NOT USE IN SNOWCAVE.
Sleeping: Use a winter sleepingbag and a "jervenduk" Its like a secondary layer of a sleeping bag shilding the "warm" sleepingbag from water and snow.
Food: Drytech, sweets and powder coffee/hot chocolate.
Heat: Storm Kichen or a campfire, chop down trees and burn them untill you reach solid ground. Then chop up the trees to smaller bits and keep it alive the entire nigth. Altso, if you go hiking on a montain, dig a hole so you are shilded from cold winds.
Other usefull gear: Headlight, skiis, snowshoes, spare rations, matches and a axe and knife. And altso bring extra wool clothing in your backpack. It makes the trip more fun if you can walk around in dry clothing.
