>>1462450>You carry them in your pack?Depends on the size. The small one goes inside the pack in the lower center near the lower back inside its own pouch. Seriously large ones go outside.
>How far are you walking?Depends on too many factors. It can be 50 feet or 15 miles. Distance really isn't an issue if I have good footwear.
>How much does your pack usually weigh?I've never once weighed it. I'd say the heaviest may be around 50lbs and lightest around 25lbs. I'm judging that from when I hauled building blocks in frame pack that weighed around those ranges (foundation blocks/stones for building a cabin.) If I'm hauling bulky things like a cooler (rare) or lots of extra weight then I use a game cart which can haul like 500lbs.
>How long are you usually /out/?Anywhere from over night to 3 weeks.
>What do you use to clean/season the pan afterwards? They are seasoned at home. Cleaning is just wiping them out. No water, sand, or pad needed. The only times it might be a problem is ifthe food you are cooking is tomato based. That can strip off everything to bare metal depending on how long it is there. then if you don't season it, thigns will stick like glue. If you must season cast iron and don't have an oven handy, you can just coat it with the oil/lard then get it hot enough to start smoking, cool it, and wipe it out. Repeat a few times and it should be good to go.
A #5 cast iron skillet, like the one in
>>1462449, is 8" round x 12" with handle is attached and weighs only 2.5lbs.
The #8 cast iron skillet, in this photo, is 10.75" round x 15.25" with handle and weighs only 8.75lbs with its lid. The lid weight 4lbs. (ignore the stains on the work table, its 2nd hand and needs resurfacing.)
I highly recommend getting a lid for your skillets. It doesn't need to be a cast iron lid unless you are going to put hot coals on top. For my small skillet, I use a glass lid.
