love that you have stretches of trail long enough where that becomes a legit concern/option, but i also love dipping into small towns with a smaller population then an American supermarket, saying hello the lady that runs the town store, that sort of thing

OP must live in the sticks, far enough from any actual address that he has to use mile markers instead.

If people get lost or break down on these long ass roads, they'll tell whoever is coming to rescue them what mile marker they are closest to, as there is nothing else around to let them know exactly where you would be.

used to be landline direct call phones at regular intervals along the roads here, now they are pretty much gone or disabled. they pretty much died when the mobile phone became a thing. feeling oddly nostalgic for this

Mile markers are things towns out on highways so people who live in rural areas can have their food and sht delivered. We have them in Canada but hey are placed every 1km instea dof 1mile but thy still call them mile markers

They have these along the highway where I live also (northern NY). Because of the mountains and lack of cell towers, cell service is nonexistent. So every two miles or so there’s an emergency phone, and yes, they still work

Where I live, there's a fleet of people in trucks whose job it is to drive on the freeway non-stop back and forth. They do nothing but look for people broke down so they can help them. They have extra fuel, various common spark plugs, wiper fluid, radiator coolant, tire patch kits, several types of oil, phone service, and several other things. It is all completely free.

Went in 2017 as an adult advisor. They now specifically tell you not to do this and have an agreement with all the local places the let them know about mile marker deliveries. :(
