I set my stack upwind and either stake an upright or place a large chunk. Build a chamber of sticks with a 3-4" opening. Stuff with kindling, place a couple twigs.
Light my starter (lighter, more kindling, soaked rag), shove it in, then feed twigs until the structure collapses. Rearrange and stoke for purpose. Scale for material.
This is another place where I don't understand the formality. Why are all the sticks the same? Why does the diagram assume no intervention? Does it acknowledge the difference between cooking, tool, entertainment, and comfort fires?
