So, /out/.
I've never been trekking or anything, but I've been on plenty of multi-day hikes, mostly 3-day ones. What would I have to do to prepare for a tru blu thru-hike on the AT?

hire 12 mexicans to carry you on a platform the whole way, you could reward them with grapes, nd at the end of the day when you go to camp you could give the one that worked the hardes a jolly rancher. and you could call of them paublo! even though none of them are named paublo. you wouldnt have to be to strict with them though. mexicans are really good at serving white men. a few treats here and there should keep them docile. you could even dress them up as matadors.... omg dude ow cool would it be to be ferried along the entire trail by a dozen mexicans dressed as matadors, youd be the envy of the world.

Probably drop a dickload of money on gear, meticulously plan resupply points, and make sure the people you're going with are 100% committed, capable and reliable. Someone on here once said that the success rate for full AT hikes is 25% which sounds believable to me.

Watch "2000 Miles to Maine: Adventures on the Appalachian Trail".

It's a documentary about hikers who planned to do the AT, set aside months of free time to do it, bought all kinds of equipment, and then quit within the first week - some of them on the first day.

I was about to make this thread. Never been on a solo hike or camping trip, haven't really even been outside in years. I'm a few months from 19 years old and live in Florida. Really want to just drop everything and hike the AT because I don't have a life direction anyways. How should I prepare? Is it wise to take a german shepherd with me?
