Most kinds of berries are good to, but stay away from blackberries and raspberries if you want to grow anything else as they're invasive as hell.
Barley or rye (depending on the location) can take over a whole field over a few years, but take much work to be edible.
potatoes and sweet potatoes grow well, but can't stand longer frost periods. potatoes also suffer from disease if they're grown in the same spot repeatedly unless you're at high altitudes (I think it was something like 800 or 900m).
