>>147286Getting /out/ is often (not always) about getting back to basics. Stripping away a lot of society's excess and reconnecting with our primal spirit. This facilitates exploring and maybe testing our physical limits as well as our mental and emotional ones. Not to say every outing must be such. Obviously it's often just to get out and have a pleasant time.
I just have a hard time buying the idea that this cushy 3-day picnic was as much of a character building experience as Mr. Dubbledam would like to claim. Maybe in the same sense that a men's retreat to a clothing-optional beach resort in the tropics would be.
And they certainly couldn't convince me that going without gruyere, craft cocktails, cigars, and such for three days would constitute being "depraved from basic essentials." He was probably referring to their cell phones. (On that note.. does this guy have anyone proof his shit? "Contrary to the euphamism, no man is an island?" Did he even look up John Doone's quote before he spat that out? Does he not know the difference between "depraved" and "deprived?")
I dunno. I'm overthinking and overanalyzing it. The gut-level response to the whole farce does raise interesting questions, though.
A bunch of bros went and had a good time. Live and let live. Although, looking at the pics on
http://www.processcreative.tv/journal/wilderness-collective-bts/ a lot of these guys look like the kind that leave the country club together to go spank it to Fight Club.
