Hello friends! Dince it is warming up and I will be pretty far in the woods over spring break, im thinking about hunting for magic mushrooms. Does anyone have any tips? I'll be in the southern region of Indiana in the US, if that helps.

Doing drugs that blur the line between reality and fiction is quite possible the stupidest thing to do whilst trotting through the woods. Besides, drugs are for filthy degenerates and provide you with nothing but a fleeting sense of satisfaction, they are a tool that idiots use to escape their sad and pitiful life. I say to you, what is so sad about your life that you need to escape it? If you know what’s so bad, why not go fix it instead of sitting on your ass and wasting valuable time you have that you could be spending fixing it?

I'm in northern California, so ymmv.

Our Psilocybe season is a fall through midwinter thing. Maybe other parts of the country are different, but I've never heard of a spring flush around here.

Look into growing your own. Pretty much anyone with two brain cells to rub together can do it and there are loads of free resources/info online. Imo, cultivated cubensis give a superior trip to any wild species I've ever tried.

Moreover, unless you already have some experience IDing wild mushroom, it's pretty stupid to jump straight into picking/eating fungi with deadly lookalikes.

Depends a little on where you live. Some states/countries allow shipping of spores, albeit not for cultivation purposes, obviously. Find out what your local laws are.

With spores-- as with ordering literally illicit product online-- where there's a will there's a way. I wouldn't be too worried about LE; even if they find your package, a few spores are probably not grounds for pursuing you. Then again, I'm not someone that would actually order some shit like that through the mail.

Cubensis start small but can get fairly large. They're golden brown on the top, have skirts and bruise a bluish/purple color. Those are the three signs you're looking for. Oh, and they grow on cow shit. They're pretty distinguishable from other shrooms.

Psilocybin has extremely high therapeutic value if done in the right way/set and setting/right mindset. Universities from all over the world have also recently started to acknowledge its healing effects on the brain with astonishment.

I recommend people to look into the subject more, but be careful. It is not a toy in any way and can seriously fuck you up long term if you do not respect it. Respect is everything when it comes to working with plant based medicines.

Look up identification on your own. Shroomery is a good resource as someone else posted. Outside of advice like "look into it yourself" - don't listen to anyone on 4chan regarding mushroom picking. It's way too fucking easy to accidentally pick something highly toxic.

You'll more than likely find at least one or two species between April and July. I'm in roughly the same area as you and May is the best month ime. Look near fallen trees, but I'm gonna stress this:
Get as familiar as possible with most species in your area - not just the magic mushrooms. Where they grow, how they look, etc. A toxic mushroom that's still in development might resemble a mature magic mushroom, etc.

Looks like some kind of panaeolus, if it has a pitch black spore print then it is psychoactive, but incredibly weak compared to other psilocybin mushrooms. If it doesn't has a brown spore print it is inactive and will make you shit a lot but won't hurt you.

I can't wait for mushroom season to start lol

OP just grow a monotub of cubes and put them in capsules
you'll have enough for a few years and know the potency/dosage without taking any unnecessary risks
I would be weary of eating a wild psych mushroom even if paul stamets himself verified it

It was never made clear that the drugs themselves would be used in an /out/ setting, just harvested. Nothing wrong with a little experimentation as long as it's kept to 2-4 times a year.

If your location is good then you need to learn more about the specific weather patterns required to trigger fruiting.

Check if there is a thread on shroomery for the season in your area. People routinely post their big hauls and share advice. Most major areas have a thread made by some avid shroomer who finds a fruiting body before everyone else at the start of the season.

It would be a few pages in if the season has been slow. If the season hasn't started yet then you can still dig up threads from previous seasons.

You can find everything you need by lurking but it's a harm minimisation site and as such is safe to post in. Just no selling.

Well I managed to find some ranches and cow fields pretty close to me. Th wonky problem is the trespassing part. I’m not crazy about it, especially as none of them have anywhere I can park my car other than the side of the road which I know to be a big no no. Do t really have any friends I can get to go with or circle the area while I hunt. I might end up just buying a spore kit and growing them myself at this point.

I would never scout any field in view of a busy road or any kind of structure. It should be out of the way. I prefer to pick at about 2am.

Just grow them honestly. You get guaranteed results. I enjoy foraging them but I prefer the cold climate winter varieties that feed on wood.
