How deep

When you go /out/ how deep into the woods do you actually go?

Do you stay on the hiking trail? Do you walk off trail into the abyss for multiple days?

Depends. I car camp with the missus and kiddo but solo I want to get at least a full day of hiking in before I stop for the night. And I try to camp aways off trail so I'm not being bothered by other people.

I once hiked for 3 days, taking breaks to eat, shit, sleep etc and then stoped for a day, then walked all the way back. It was pretty good

Depends where i am and who i am with. In hunting season in places that permit it I get way off trail. Normally hiking I sleep very close to trail or in a campground (they have them even 7 miles downtrail) . I have a few state parks that I like that have camp sites about .25 mile from the parking spot, which are perfect for bringing an ice chest but still being sort of wild. I don't car camp much anymore but it is perfect for tricking stupid girls into liking camping.

It is pretty much the only time I take a cellphone and that is only to check if it can get a signal. Once it can't I keep going for an extra 5 miles.

We have some National forest roads that go really fucking far into nowhere. Only locals use it sparsely mainly to get to a fishing spot. You need quads to get up it in most spots.

I'll usually take that road for a bit, and then jump off of it and head toward wilderness for like a quarter mile-a mile. Every time I do this I don't see a single person for a week, and that's how I like it.

Nothing worse than camping within spitting distance of the next tent.
