I always keep my dog on leash and I recently nearly killed an offlesh dog another hiker had let run free. It was a shitbull and it tried to kill my dog on sight. I just kicked the shit out of it owner the owner grabbed it. Owner then tries to fight me.

one of the absolute best parts of being a park ranger is being able to enforce the leash rule. the look on their face when you tell them you will have their dog taken by animal control is priceless

a couple of weeks ago i was camping in a forest that is also designated as a "dog forest" where people can keep their dogs off leash

lots of friendly dogs came running up to my fireside to say hi, small dogs, big dogs, especially when i cooked my meat!
i just greet the dogs, talk to them, let them know who i am and what im doing, of course the dog doesnt "literally" know what im saying, but i am letting them know that i am calm and no threat

early on one German shepered got pretty freaked out and barking pretty aggressively when it saw me with a pack on and walking with poles, but i just talked to it like "hey buddy, you out enjoying the nice weather too? good to meet you! im going over here, yea its okay that your barking, doesnt bother me"

heh, literally got woken up on that trip by a cute as heck spaniel licking my face, i was just tarp camping so really nothing to stop it from viciously assaulting me with cuddles, i wasnt even out of my sleeping bag yet!

3. that one cat me and a friend of mine met when we where camping in the woods on an overnighter and it even hung around to the morning and followed us around, we even came up with a gameplan as to what we would do if it followed us into the train

It's kind of amusing when they yell that their dog is friendly but then panic when you yell back that your dog isn't. Whatever they're yelling at that point couldn't possibly be the dog's name because he isn't responding to it.

My dog is trained to be off leash but she's always within sight and she recalls in a second. But I can't do that in any public park because of shitbulls running up and attacking her. Thankfully my dog has never been seriously injured by a shitbull. But there have been close calls and I've seen shitbull victims outside parks

I won’t go into terribly specific details, but I had to put down a dog once in a state park.

This was a simple car camp sort of trip. It was my first time taking my 1 year old on her first /out/ing and we had set the stroller up and were on one of those semi paved sort of nature path type trails that’s probably only 2 miles at once (it’s not much, but it’s the furtherest distance from the park headquarters and a dead zone for cell phones)

Long story short, we see a pit bull pop out from behind the bend of the trail but it’s still a good 100 yards away. We do not see any people with said dog. About 40 yards out it begins is hauling down towards the stroller and barking. There is still NO owner in sight. I pulled my gun and put the dog dog.

This is the annoying reality of the story now. My child has started bawling because of the sound, my cell won’t work, and there is still no owner! I see that the dog has a leash and number, so I carefully got that and walked back to the rangers office to explain what had happened and what I needed to do (I’m worried about any legal problems, and I’m crying at this point too but the gentleman was very reassuring and told me I was well in my right for what happened)

I gave him the phone number and left. They had no reason for me to stay.

Needless to stay my trip was a bust at that point. Packed up and left and as we passed the ranger station we saw that there was a pickup with two younger black men arguing with the ranger. I can only assume it was their dog but in before /myracism.

Really shitty feels.

t. Dog cuck. One of my clients has a tiny little dog, no threat at all. Yesterday it ran straight up to me and started scratching my legs. It didn't hurt much, but it did draw blood. I don't want to be scratched by a dogs filthy claws ffs. The scratches could have gone septic. Off leash dogs deserve to be kicked on sight, and it would be the owner's fault for being fucking irresponsible retards.

no, its assessing the intent of the animal, i dont give a heck what the owner is shouting, the owner doesn't matter.
and if it is aggressive the natural response is asserting dominance. a normal house dog will back the fuck down if it senses a human even being slightly "real" aggressive towards it, in my experience atleast. but dont fake it, if you legitemately feel in danger and meet force on force a dog will back the fuck down. not guard trained dogs or anyting sometimes just normal every day dogs

Are you impaired? I don't want to pet dogs. This is why I don't have a dog. Friendly dogs shove their noses into my crotch. Would you be OK with a random human charging towards you to give you a forced hug, if that person was "nice"? It's called personal space, dogs don't respect that, hence they can fuck off.

Yea, not exactly related to off leash dogs but more towards shitty owners, my grandpa had a few bigger dogs, hound dog/lab/shepherd mutts he used for hunting and livestock protection, but they weren't trained how to deal with people at all. When I was about 3 or 4, one of them jumped on me, putting his front paws on my shoulders and pushed me down, and the other two dogs surrounded me and were barking and getting really close to me before my dad got over there and got me up in his arms. Freaked me out and made me anxious around and afraid of bigger dogs for a long time, which just predisposes them to pick on you because they're aware of it. I'm over it now because I'm big enough to completely disable a dog now.

don't think I was seriously damaged by it but some people could be. Could lead to anxiety disorder or ptsd or smthn

Same Ranger here, thought I would tell a perfect example. Recently a lady let her dog off the leash at a relatively small park and it chased a small deer into a river and mauled it to death in there, a separate visitor sent in photos of it actually happening (pretty gruesome). We checked our trail cams and we were able to not only get a picture of her with the dog but also her car and we are going to be able to give her a summons for at least a disorderly persons. Now im not here to to preach about saving all the deer but this could have easily been another dog or even a person and at the very least people go to this park to enjoy the wildlife and they dont deserve to have to see this sort of thing in our park system.

We are taking a stronger stance on this than ever before and while it may seem stupid to a lot of people it is literally our job to protect the park from the people and the people from the park.

I've done that before, but I used fly poison. New neighbors with a boxer/pitbull cross and a GSD would let them run, which is fine in my books as long as they respect fences but these dogs didn't. I shot the shepherd when the killed a calf, told my neighbors and they even made good on the dead calf, but they still let the other dog run and he would come into the pasture and chase cows. He never killed one but one day he chewed up a show calf pretty good but he was always back across the fence by the time I got out there. Put a pound of hamburger mixed with fly poison in the pasture one morning and that afternoon he was dead not more than 15 foot from the meat. Feels bad killing dogs, but sometimes it must be done.

I do agree that people make to much out of loose dogs, but it's an acceptable risj thing. Even after getting bit I still don't mind loose dogs because I realize the chance of them harming me is relatively low. But that is a risk I have accepted for myself and someone else might feel that the risk level is too high and take action to avoid it, which is also 100% reasonable and within their rights. The second you take your dog off it's rope you are taking a gamble with that dogs life, the risk is not that great, but should something happen to the dog it is the owners fault and no one elses. I always keep mine on a leash for just this reason.

I was a game keeper apprentice for a year and did grouse beating for years. The dogs would be leashed or in the trucks until we where on location and doing the beat to protect any wildlife that they are trained to go after but will stop on command unless young/poorly trained. A trained dog is no danger at all. Working with sheep dogs and gun dogs they are no harm as they know what theyre jaws are capable off. Breed doesnt matter as much as the owner and training, ive seen pitbull, staffs and sheperds behave better than some "family dogs". Also a dog will hurt you way more if it senses that initial fear. Ive been attacked by numerous dogs, after the first time i realised keep your cool and cuddle them and they calm down right away. Remember they see you as as a threat!

I try to enforce the rule with every dog I see for a few reasons, first and foremost is to stay consistent...people are a lot easier to talk to and correct if they know its the same for everyone. Second and most important is even the most well behaved and tiny off leash dog can run up to a dog on leash who is not very good with other dogs, you just never know and ive seen some blood bathes from people who never in a million years thought it could go down like this.

I've got a pit boxer mix, and I don't think there could be a friendlier dog in existence. She loves people, other dogs, cats, and even rabbits and squirls.

She chased down a rabbit once and didn't even hurt it. She just kept poking it with her nose as to say "Why did you stop running I was having fun!"

I've taken her to the dog park, and even when other dogs are aggressive she just keeps trying to play. I don't think she even understands the concept of violence. I've seen her walk right up to a opposum and she just ran around it in circles trying to make it play with her. And when it eventually bit at her, she just left it alone.

People who hate any kind of dog are letting memes form their opinions for them. Or they simply haven't had enough experience with them while growing up. Dogs mold to mirror their masters, if you're calm and in control they will be too. But if you're bitter and mean, they will be as well.

Was almost mauled multiple times as a child and I've had to wake up multiple times at random times in the night (after a hard days work) to pull my mother's rottweiler off of the other dogs she had as well as the other dogs she had chewing up a metric fuck ton of cords costing me around $400. She ended up getting rid of her, thank god, and gave her to a man who wanted a female so he could breed them.

Outside dogs aren't bad though (i miss an old bloodhound i had a kid he was a good boy) as long as the nigger owners don't leave them to roam everywhere and do as they please around the neighborhoods.
