>>1475788Honestly, it's a rich man's game. You need a boat and a place to store it. A laser is a good choice because they're easy to sail with just one person. You should probably take a class, but honestly it's possible to get by just googling all the info, and it's not like you can really fuck up enough to die in something that size, assuming you can swim.
>>1475793>General sailing experience? In terms of hours? No fucking idea. Tens of thousands I guess? I usually only sail a few weekends a year unless I'm doing something specifically boat related, but I've been doing it all my life. Pretty casual though, never been aship longer than a week or so.
>Favorite sailboat and rigging?Don't have one. Fast little things like lasers are fun, but I also like maneuverable things like a kayak (not sailing, but same category imo). Big boats aren't as enjoyable but necessary if you're doing anything more than recreation, or even if you're doing that for a longer period of time.
>Favorite area or body of water the sail on?I haven't been on all of them. In general I prefer the Atlantic over the Pacific, and not just for boating.
>Have you ever single-handed? any advice or do's/don'ts you have learned a long the way?Only on small boats. Do know where you're going, that's the main thing. And don't go further out to sea than your skill allows for.
>>1480560The important thing would be to stand up (but remember three points of contact) and try keeping your torso steady; that's the best practice for getting your sea legs.
