Are these any good or a meme? Putting together a lightweight hunting kit, want to be able to run comfortably with it on. They look lighter than most backpacks and more comfortable?

try pic related instead. it's a chest pouch. if you're gonna use it for running, slings will either slip off your shoulder, or turn itself into a sideways duffel bag. I currently have one as a gym bag

Yeah. Their more updated messenger bags, so you can just rotate it around to reach inside. Meaning it's designed to rotate around.I'd go for a small backpack with chest strap or a fanny pack. Less cool, but more secure.
...yes I did do "parkour" innawoods when nobody was watching. It was fun as fuck, but I should have trained my core more before trying to use it on an US Army obstacle course.
Imagine getting stuck because you tried to vault a wall, instead of just rolling over it like everyone else. Now imagine you're the first bunk, and therefore "example" for everything.

You can use a small karabiner to hold the bottom (non-strapped) corner of the bag to your belt hoops. That way you can be upside down and it won't come out of place.

Those bags aren't' really comfortable but they do work nice for fishing, you can pull the bag in front and use it one handed if you need to switch tackle or whatever.

I love my MEC sling bag. Great little daypack that swivels for access nicely. If you're just going for a hike away from your site in which you dont need to haul along all of your gear at once these things come in handy for traveling lightly.

You use one shoulder at a time so the other gets a rest. And if you go shirtless to keep cool, with two straps neither shoulder ever gets a break from the straps chafing. With this you're resting one shoulder all the time.

Also I like the look of where it sits, in the curve of your lumbar spine rather than high on your shoulders. Seems like the weight is held less eccentrically to your core. It may not hold much but that's kind of the point of going lightweight.

Well for one thing you want your weight to be high and tight to your body so it can be distributed more evenly to your shoulders and waist strap. Putting all of the weight you're carrying on one shoulder and letting it hang down in the small of your back is just going to make your lower back muscles do all the lifting. There's a reason you never see these packs besides autists like you carrying them around a high school, and maybe first responder medical types that need a bag they can swing around to the front for quick access

I have one for bouldering because it doesn't fuck with my shoulder movement the way a regular rucksack would, but for anything else they're a poor choice.

I use a padded one for caving. Keeps my back from getting scraped up and holds my spare batteries/light/water/etc while staying low profile and not getting in the fucking way or caught on things like a regular backpack. Seems pretty shitty for running though.

Assault packs typically have zippers and this one has some metal slats that acts like a frame for lighter loads. Downside is that it's pretty heavy and will make you look like a tacticool larper.

They are ok for tasks that require you to take it on and off quickly, such as photography. Thats the only sling bag ive kept.
