I keep a ss one with my spare fishing tackle, and the CS rides in the backpack as a backup/loaner. I have other knives for game processing and none of them have a guard. Guards just get in the way for carving and food prep.
The only two knives I have with guards are both double edged, one is for pigs and the other is pretty much just for the zombie apocalypse, meaning it never gets used other than terrorizing water bottles, but whatever.
