depends what you're looking for, but anywhere along the pacific crest trail, the appalachian trail, the continental divide trail, continental coastal trail should be pretty cool. Southern Utah is fantastic too

The west coast is pretty awesome. I just moved to Washington state and the north cascades are pretty amazing. There's also a lot of nice places in Oregon and northern California. Klamath wilderness is amazing.

So some big takeaways are the California redwoods and sequoia woods. Oregon coast, Washington mountains and the Olympic rain forest. The only temperate rain forest in the world.

As a Califag, I can only speak for the Sierras, which I would strongly recommend even though people like to shit on them here. Go for the eastside as it's more dramatic and less full of LA/SF cancer. Every season will have more to do than you can possibly fit into a lifetime. If you're on National Forest or BLM land, you can basically put your tent wherever the fuck you want.

Anything on the west coast is going to be pretty great. I've heard really good things about the Cascades in Washington.

Alaska (during late spring/early summer) is also probably a good option if you don't mind driving to places like Denali National Park.

Honestly, literally cut off the East Coast and Midwest (not a whole lot to see nature-wise in either) and just throw a dart. There are some solid places on the East Coast (where I live), but nothing worth making the trek from Europe or worthy of bragging to your friends about

Truthfully there are great places to hike in almost every place in America, but if you want the best of the best you MUST do the west. As this anon says >>1481705, the Sierras are GOAT. Check out the area around Lake Tahoe. I was up there for all of last summer and it probably would've taken another two summers to do everything in the immediate vicinity. The California/Nevada border in general is /out/ paradise.

What is Tongass National Forest then? The Pacific temperate rain forest stretches way farther north than Washington. There are also many other temperate rain forests in the world, Tongass is the largest one left intact in the world.
