>>1482727His is an HzJ76 or something 76. Two seat troopie or covered bed option.
79 is the bed and much longer wheel base in 3 or 6 seater config.
I have a W460 in 4 cylinder. With 5.33 gearing (availabile military 6.13) is really nice but they're incredibly heavy and underpowered. Portal axles would help out a lot but they're a $15k add-on. At that point, buy a W463.
I also have a few FJ80s and J40 series. 40 is the obvious choice over the G-Wagon W460 considering repairs and mercedes parts. A brake caliper cost me $1800 the other day on the W460 and calipers for the J40 were something stupid like $200 on cockvato. Can't find G-Wagon parts on there.
Same thing with the Land Rover series 1 and 2. Just get a J60 or if you don't mind a bit of electronics, get the J80 (solve that problem with a manual J80 series).
Depends what you're looking for. There's no way I'd be able to overland with a Suzuki or 2 door jeep considering all the random stuff I like to carry in to sustain me for 2~ weeks. Roof racks help but they're not the be all / end all. If you want to do light weight overlanding, just get the ATV or dirt bike as you mentioned.
>>1481641Import them from 1991 or so. Germany and scandanavia have LHD ones too which is much more helpful
