>>1484972Well what are you guys after? I ve seen so many cool things while exploring and prospecting across BC. Most of my wanderings though were in the Smithers and Barkerville areas but I ve also spent a lot of time in the Stewert / Hyder area as well.
Red Rose is one of my favorite ghost towns in BC, as its still actually standing for the most part. The town was abandoned in 1958 after the bull wheel on the main ore tram way caught fire and repairs needed to be made. During the downtime the price of tungsten dropped out and everyone packed up over night and left, thinking they would be back to work in a few days. No one ever returned.
When I first visited Red Rose in 2000 most of the lower town site was overgrown, with the buildings still standing. The main street is paved and even had 2 street lights on the power poles. As you enter the ruins, you will only notice at first the pavement under your feet, than little things poking out of the overgrowth. A fire hydrant, a mail box, maybe a stop sign.
Most of the buildings have now long since collapsed, but in 2000 they still had roofs and even glass in the windows. Everything not valuable was still sitting as it was in the 1950s, including a coffee mug still sitting in a sink.
The lower camp was always creepy, it felt like you were walking around 100 years after an apocalypse. The camp on the mountain was already long deteriorated by weather and time when I first saw it, but most of the covered walk ways were still in tact, and more than one set of beds still had sheets on them. Now everything is quickly falling to pieces, soon no one will know the amazing place that was Red Rose.
