Last time i was in toronto almost every 16 yo had one so id assume u can buy and sell them i also seen them sold at canadian tire some years ago but never bothered looking into legality now as i have a firearms liscense

No, you dumb cunt. He means test it so you know how to use it. If you've never fired off a can, then you might be mistaken about how effective or ineffective it is. Everybody should fire off at least a couple sprays in calm weather and a couple sprays in windy weather just to see how the stuff works. It's VERY easy to accidentally mace yourself in windy weather, for example, but you will feel the effects even when there is no wind. Little tip, though, don't do it in your yard. Go to the woods or a very open/deserted field with no one (not a few people -- NO ONE) around to test it.

Recent studies indicate that bear encounters where bear spray is deployed are less dangerous than encounters where a firearm is deployed.
In my fairly substantial experience with bears, you really don't need either for most bear encouters. Just keep a cool head and let the bear know you aren't prey. Telling it to fuck off seems to work very well.

Only as effective as the person using it. 99% of the time you won't have to use it. that 1% where you pull it out? Its either charging at you or you are assailing it. MOst people don't even stop to check if they are upwind of the bear - or cut off an escape route for the bear, panic, start yelling and causes the bear to charge at them - then they assail the bear and blame it for their shitty behavior.

Bear spray is less potent than quality defensive OC, because the goal with bear spray is to get the bear to fuck off, not to make the bear sob in the foetal position where he was sprayed for an hour because it's eyes are swollen shut and it can't take a deep breath.

Pure OC is 5.3 million scovilles, most bear spray is 1% OC or 2% "major capsasinoids" (aka lower scoville impure OC), whereas good human use OC spray will be pure (5.3 million scoville) OC and 3-7% OC by weight.

I bought my mother some Fox Labs Mean Green OC spray and when she sprayed a pitbull with it the dog died of respiratory distress, so when she asked for something lower test so that it wouldn't kill an asthmatic mugger, I replaced it with White Lightning and lied to her about the potency (White Lightning is ~15% more powerful than Mean Green), because I'd rather an asthmatic mugger dies for trying to assault my mother.

It's chemically identical to pepper spray, yes, but it has a significantly higher capsaicin concentration. Try and use regular pepper spray on a bear and they'll just completely ignore it.

That's garbage. I took my brother on a camping trip a few years ago and a black bear was walking past camp. My brother freaked out and started yelling at it, the bear got curious about the noisy animal in its home, took a couple steps forward and then stood up to get a better view of him before eventually wandering off. I know this bear, he's cool, we have a mutual respect. My brother still tells this story as "the time he got charged by a grizzly". You can't use personal accounts of bear encounters as fact.

The findings are skewed by the assumption that all other factors were equal when the simple fact of the matter is, most of the people who carry a gun into the woods are experienced and will only fire it at a bear if they truly need to defend themselves, while the majority of people who carry spray have never been in the wilderness and will attack a bear that was minding its own business, because they've been let to believe that bears are just ravenous killing machines. Most of the bears I've met just want to be left alone.

In my experience bears are pretty docile unless they're surprised. So let's say that 10% of bear encounters result in the bear attacking.

If an experienced woodsman with a firearm gets attacked by a bear, and has a 50% chance of getting injured during an attack, that's 5% of total encounters.

If a person is carrying bear spray because they're afraid of bears, then they're going to start spraying the bear in every encounter, with a 25% chance of injury. That's 25% of total encounters.

People who carry bear spray are 5 times as likely to get injured than people who carry a gun.

Most of the bears in my area are black bears. You can get within 20' (~7m) of a black bear and as long as you move slow and nonthreateningly they'll leave you alone because they don't want to get into a fight with a human any more than the human wants to get into a fight with them.

As far as I'm concerned, carrying an extra item while hiking just to defend against black bears is just cowardice. You may as well carry a lead suit in case of a nuclear war.

I have tried to purchase this stuff as a Canadian citizen at Canadian Tire, and I needed to fill out a government of Canada acquisition form that was logged in a national database in Ottawa. I wouldn't be surprised if amazon just uses your account information and address to fill these things out on behalf of the customer but I am guessing this is what happens.
