Family friend was a French Canadian man. Great guy. Made a 6 mile long ATV trail off a loging road directly to his off-grid cabin using only his machine, an axe, a compass, and some vague government maps. He was a land surveyor and did with a compass and a map in the 70s what an expensive GPS unit claimed it could do. Had run-ins with bears, wolves, mountain lions. Would get drunk as a skunk in the woods. Tougher than the rocks he walked on. They dont make men like that anymore
