New to batoning so my question is:
Should I buy a mallet or make my own?
There's some pretty badass batoning mallets on the market but they're so expensive.
I don't want to look like a dork inna woods this Spring/Summer/Fall/etc. and I'm just itching to get batoning.

batoning is the only meme that this slow board has and nobody outside of this board gets it. For being a slow board, I still have to fight with thousands of people to fish any lake within 200 miles of any major city.

if you want a nice mallet for home you should make one because it's a good skill and it's fun

carrying or making a mallet innawoods is a waste of time where you could be gathering extra wood for the night or adjusting your shelter just use a piece of the firewood
don't even carve it just find one big enough to hit something hard and small enough you can still hold onto it

this. I find the back of a hatchet head is perfect for batoning. I'v only broken every knife I've ever tried it with, but hey, I'm a survivor. sucks when a knife breaks though, I have to go out and buy a new one every time so I can keep batoning.
