>>1487780Sure. The canal network goes through lots of big cities and poorer areas. You wouldn't wild camp next to an urban drug den, so you shouldn't moor up next to one either.
I have never had any one break into my boat. I have had one person siphon my fuel though, which is annoying as fuck because the only person who would do that is another boat owner. Some of the people who live on boats are dirt poor, river rats literally stealing wood to burn for heat and living in decrepit narrow boats which they cannot afford to maintain. I put a lock on the fuel cap after that and have never had another theft.
The worse problem you face is kids and tourists. Kids sometimes try climbing onto your boat when you are moored up. Tourists don't seem to understand that people actually live on narrow boats and sometimes think they can walk on and have a look around. Especially bad in a touristy city like Chester where people go to see old worldey stuff.
But I don't think these problems are any worse than you would have living in an apartment somewhere. They big advantage of living in a boat is the ability to move when you get bored of an area.
